“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” Bernard Shaw
This video takes us to Wadi Dhahr, 15km outside the city of Sana’a. Wadi Dhahr is the home of Dar al-Hajar “The Stone Palace”, often referred to as the symbol of Yemen.
The video is more than just a look at a traditional dish. It takes us on a short journey to marvel at the beautiful mountains and some of the country’s architectural history. The dish is deeply tied to Yemeni traditions.
Wadi Dhahr, despite being barely beyond the outskirts of Sana’a, somehow seems so remote, away from the trouble and pain the city has endured during the past four years.
The video is presented in partnership with #BTetelphony, a Yemeni video platform that showcases real stories inside Yemen by talented videographers using their smart phones. The platform aims to present inspiring and relatable stories while acting as a window for the world to see Yemen in a different light. #BTetelphony is a project implemented by La Saqf media, a Yemeni youth-led media initiative.
So, what is Ber’ai? Watch the video below to learn all about this traditional dish.
